Monday, April 18thWell hello everybody. Welcome to our family journal. I put this site together at the end of my winter break, so now that the spring semester is almost over I thought it would be nice to get my act together and actually post to it.
The most recent change in our goings-on is that we’ve moved to a new apartment. We now live in apartment #127. Literally a stone’s toss from our old apartment, it took about an hour and a half (with a short pizza break thrown in) to move in, thanks to a bunch of great friends. Well, I spent a good portion of the day moving over all the little things like books, DVDs and the like. Nonetheless, it was a lot easier than moving, say, from California to Texas.
We’ve traded in the high life of a 2-bedroom, 2 ½-bathroom two-story townhouse for a modest 2-bedroom, 2-bath one-floor apartment. The rent is about $60 less per month and we expect it will cost a little less per month in energy bills, which means more money to pay our other bills. Aside from the very small kitchen and overall less space to store our copious amounts stuff, the nice part is that when I’m sitting at my computer and the phone rings, I don’t have to race downstairs to get it. Claire and Yoshi, though, probably won’t be getting nearly as much exercise as they used to. They will now turn into big fat lazy cat slobs in all likelihood. The big plus for them is that our apartment has plenty of windows on the ground floor which allows for plenty of world-watching time. The townhouse only had three ground-level windows, two of which looked out into fenced patios. It was a real downgrade from LA for Yoshi, who was accustomed to having super-busy San Vicente Blvd to watch at all hours of the day. Plus, there are two cats that belong to our neighbors who like to pass through our new patio constantly. While Claire and Yoshi stare them down every time they come through, the neighbor cats are very playful and get disappointed when there’s no one at the window hissing or lunging at the glass.
In other news, the semester is quickly coming to an end, which means I have a bunch of papers and exams to worry about. Then I have a little break before summer school starts. More importantly, I’ve begun work planning out my Masters thesis. The topic is going to be teaching social skills to students with Asperger’s Syndrome, based on a study my advisor (Dr. Sigafoos) and another one of my professors (Dr. O’Reilly) recently published (you can see them here). I’ve done an initial literature search and I’m meeting with Mark’s wife this week because she is an autism specialist for the school district and she’ll be able to hook me up with some participants.
Those two entries at the bottom were test entries. I was going to delete them but I think they are rad so I will leave them there.
